The UNSW Killer Whales were an inaugural member of the Women's National Water Polo League which first started in 2004. In its 7 seasons in operation there has been a total of 15 clubs in the League, with the number now finalised at 12.

The Australian Women's National League is easily in the top 3 club competitions in Women's Water Polo today.  It boasts all of Australia's National Squad which is consistently amongst the top 2 in the world, as well as featuring International Players from the USA, Hungary, China, Holland and New Zealand. Along with this it is a truly National competition, featuring teams from 5 different states around Australia. The competition runs from late January through to mid May and includes 22 round games plus a 6 team finals series.

Our Killer Whales team has had strong representation in Australian teams in the past and present. Currently we have 1 senior Australian team member, 2 past Australian Juniors and 4 current Australian Age team players in our team.

The team is coached by Andrew Yanitsas (Bachelor Ex Science & Diploma in Sports Coaching) Andrew, in his 5th season as National League coach, was a member of the National Women's team coaching staff leading up to the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Currently Andrew is a Water Polo coach at the NSW Institute of Sport and is the Sport Science Coordinator for the Australian National Men's Team.
